Expert Witness Services

Please note - I no longer offer psychology services.

To find an appropriate expert witness, please go to DeafExpert.

Assessment of Deaf people in a legal setting is a highly specialised task, not to be undertaken by non-specialists. It is necessary to have an understanding of language and culture of Deaf people and of the impact of developmental experiences associated with Deafness.

Without such specialist input there is a significant risk that the Deaf person suffers from inappropriate assessment and inadequate service provision.

Dr Jim Cromwell MA(Hons) PsychD is a Clinical Psychologist and BSL Interpreter who is based in Exeter. He has been a Trustee and Chair of the British Society for Mental Health and Deafness, is a Level 4(6) signer and qualified BSL/English Sign Language Interpreter, and has worked with Deaf people since 1988.
